also known as Miké Oz Need
Filmmaker, Animator, Illustrator, Narrator, and Performer
Michael Need is a multidisciplinary artist at Tutti Arts who works across filmmaking, hand-drawn animation, illustration, screenwriting, comedy and performance. He enjoys telling stories that make people laugh, using humour and imagination across a range of creative projects.
Michael began by combining his love of cartooning and storytelling to write and illustrate his children’s book, 3 Ducks Fix the Moon. This humorous story follows three cheeky ducks who accidentally shatter the moon and must work together to repair it. An e-book version with his voice over and added music and sound effects has also been produced.
His filmmaking practice includes writing, acting in, filming and editing short comedy films. In 2023, his short film Indoor Camping Guide received three accolades: Best Screen Writer at the Focus on Ability Film Festival, Best Movie in South Australia from the Nova Employment Choice Award, and a semi-finalist award for Best Comedy at the Student World Impact Film Festival in the United States.
Following his screenwriting award, Michael received mentoring from Diversity Pictures producer Jessica Orcsik in Hollywood, California. Together, they developed 3 Ducks Fix the Moon into a feature film script, which is registered with the Writers Guild of America. Michael is currently seeking funding to develop the project into an animated film or a television mini-series.
His short film Surviving the Blackout was a top five finalist at the 2025 Focus on Ability Film Festival. More recently, Michael has completed two hand-drawn animated shorts, Creativity Block (2026) and PB&J: A Romantic Spread (2026). Creativity Block was selected as a finalist showcase in the 2026 Focus on Ability Film Festival Red Carpet.
Michael also shares his passion for cinema through his YouTube channel, Sketch Bud, where he creates reviews of new movie releases.
In 2022, 2024 and 2026, Michael was invited to be a guest film reviewer at South Australia’s Sit Down, Shut Up and Watch international short film festival. Alongside reviewing around 20 films per festival, he designed the festival’s 3D logo and managed its online release schedule.
Michael has also explored performance and broadcasting at Tutti Arts. As a member of Company AT, Tutti Arts’ autistic theatre group, he has performed in productions including History of Autism and Impersonal Space. He is a member of Radio Tutti, where he has interviewed guests including ABC Radio Adelaide presenter Peter Goers, children’s entertainer and songwriter Peter Coombe, and performer Hans.
Through his work across film, animation, illustration, theatre and storytelling, Michael continues to develop imaginative projects that bring humour and creativity to audiences.
